EXIT

I’ve never been one for horror, it actually scares me and I’ve never had the desire to deliberately scare myself. Jumping off a moving plane, sure but the stuff of nightmares not so much. But I came to a recent realization; that any worthwhile student and practitioner of the arts should never enclose themselves in only the things that they like or are comfortable with. You never grow. So in attempt to expand my horizons I’ve started watching horror shorts and feature films. Most I find amusing actually, the gorey kind but what kills me is suspense. The steady build which heightens the tension and plays on my imagination is something I struggle with and Exit does this brilliantly. Written and directed by Daniel Zimbler based on a short story by Harry Farjeon this gem  is set in a country manor in Edwardian England in which a small group are gathered in a parlour room celebrating christmas and a wedding of two of number. What starts as an exchange of stories and an annoying best man seemingly bent on ruining the joyous moods begins to unravel into something much more sinister.

It stars Julian Glover (“Game of Thrones”, “The Empire Strikes Back”) and whilst he is the most acclaimed of the actors is certainly not in poor company as the whole company pulls off a masterful performance.
